Would you like more guidance on how to support your Primary child's learning at home?
A big thank you to Mrs. Jo Saunders, Learning Leader in the Primary School
Mrs. Saunders has kindly developed a series of curriculum meetings to help parents understand how their children are being taught at BSW. On Tuesday 29th September, 40 enthusistic parents of children in the Nursery, Reception and Year 1 learned about phonics teaching and early reading strategies. On October, 6, 29 brave parents of Year 3 and 4 pupils practiced basic Mathematics concepts- some doing better than others depending on whether they had their morning coffee or not!
Next up are Year 5/6 parents who are invited to learn Math strategies on October 13 at 8:30 a.m. and the month will finish up on October 20 at 8:30 a.m. (sharp) with Years 1/2 parents learning Math strategies (followed by the Pumpkin Patch trip). So, Years1,2,5 and 6 parents sharpen your pencils and welcome back to school!

Roald Dahl Day in Year 3
On September 14th, it was Roald Dahl Day! Everyone in Year Three took part. In both Year Three classes there were fun activities; like making dream catchers and making bugs on a giant peach. We also made a huge BFG (although some people were taller than him). There were listening stations that were playing Roald Dahl’s ‘Revolting Rhymes’ and ‘Goldilocks’ and ‘Cinderella’.
After Roald Dahl Day we had an open house for all the parents so we could show everyone around both classrooms and show them our work.
Roald Dahl Day was really fun; especially making the BFG. Everyone had a lot of fun! At the open house we showed our super sentences about the Gigantic Crocodile (we wrote them on Roald Dahl Day too). We watched the BFG and James and the Giant Peach. They were very interesting movies. I wonder what we are going to do next Roald Dahl Day? I hope it is fun again in Year Four. I also wish that Roald Dahl had written more books I could read as they are all so interesting. Unfortunately he died in 1990 so he can’t. Written by Miriam W., Year 3 Atlanta

The Model United Nations Club is Gearing Up!
Mr Prabhu and Miss Shaw will be organising a Model United Nations Club Activity for students in Years 7-12 after October half term. Over the space of about six months, students will work to develop their understanding of what the United Nations does around the world, build up their skills as negotiators and debaters and also learn about a number of global and regional issues that affect a variety of different groups and/or countries.
After February half term, students will begin to prepare to participate in the annual Spring Model UN Conference at the State Department in Washington DC on Wednesday 5th May. Click here for more information and to sign up.

Get to Know Susan Parliment
Orlando Nursery Class Teacher
I have been teaching for twelve years, and for the last few years, I was recognised as a Key Practitioner for the Foundation Stage in Suffolk. I trained at De Montford University in Bedford. I have spent most of my teaching career in East Anglia but as a Fulbright Alumni, I spent a year teaching in McLean, Virginia. Recently, I completed a ski season in Switzerland where I was working with school groups both on and off the slopes. My sense of adventure has led me to complete a tandem parachute jump to raise school funds and last year, I ran a half marathon to raise money for a charity very close to my heart. I also enjoy yoga and football.

The Breast Cancer Awareness Bake Sale was a great success. Thank you to all parents who supported their children by either baking or donating money. The school raised over $350.00 for this past Sunday's Breast Cancer Walk which included students and faculty. More details of the walk in next week's FOCUS.
From Chris Butler, BSW's new Parent Volunteer Coordinator
Welcome to the first edition of Parents’ Corner! In this space, I hope to share information, highlight valuable time-and-talent contributions from our parents, and offer opportunities for participation in our school community.
Our year has gotten off to a wonderful start, with historic numbers of helpers in the library, the lunchroom, and everywhere in between! We are still in need of class reps for year 5, 9, 12 and 13, and encourage anyone who has interest or questions to contact me at CJWButler@aol.com.
Our Little Acorns playgroup has started on Wednesdays from 8:30 until 10:15 am, and we welcome parents and friends of BSW to bring their little ones (aged 0-3) and stop by!
